James L. Shilling, Sr., 92, of Reedsville, passed away, Monday morning, July 15, 2019, at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. Born June 27, 1927 in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Brice L. Shilling, Sr., and Eva Naomi (Ferguson) Shilling. His wife, Ethel Mae (Wilson) Shilling preceded him in death on June 12, 1997. Surviving are: children, Gwendolyn Barrett and husband Richard of Exton, James L. Shilling, Jr. and wife Patti of Reedsville; grandchildren, Travis and wife Jenny, Kristen and husband Dan, Lauren and husband Tyler, Andrew, Jennifer; great grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, Parker, Connor, and Eloise. He was preceded in death by siblings, Brice L. Schilling, Sr. and Betty Orner. James was retired military, a veteran of World War II, serving in both the Army and Air Force. He was a member of the Reedsville Evangelical Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge 203, Lewistown, and Scottish Rites, the 305th Bomb Group, and Pennsylvania National Guard. During his military career, he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was inducted into the Four Chaplains Memorial Foundation Legion of Honor Program for his humanitarian and unconditional service to others during his military career.
There will be a visitation 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the Reedsville Evangelical Lutheran Church and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2019, with Reverend Carla Volland officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville with Lewistown VFW Post 7011 providing Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Reedsville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 E. Logan St., Reedsville, Pa. 17084.
