Garry D. “Pork” Bittner, 82, of 63 Naginey Road, Milroy, passed away at 9:07 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Centre Care Nursing Home in Bellefonte.
He was born August 18, 1939 in Siglerville, a son of the late William A. Bitner, Sr. and Mary I. (Riden) Bitner. On October 20, 1961, he married his wife of 60 years, Joyce M. (Condo) Bittner, she survives at their home.
He is also survived by: a son, Gary L. Bittner & wife Selena of Milroy, two brothers, William A. Bitner, Jr. of Lewistown and Shawn L. Bittner & wife Pam of Delaware, as well as two sisters, Suzanne Davis of Siglerville and Linda Kenawell & husband Terry of Siglerville.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Benny H. Bitner and W. Curtis Bitner.
Garry served in the US Army from 1957-1959 with the 10th Eng. Battalion 3rd Div. in Germany. He worked at Overhead Door of Lewistown for 25 years, where he served as Plant Manager. He and his brother Curtis owned and operated Milroy Door Company until he moved to Ocala, FL where he worked for Emergency One for nine years. In 1997, he and his wife moved back home and he went back to work at Milroy Door Company until his retirement. He and his brother also opened the Old Country Store in Siglerville and ran it from 1973-1975.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Milroy. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, going to the horse races, taking long rides in the mountains to look for deer, and sitting on the porch. He also loved his cats and dogs for the time they had them.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
