James M. Dobson, Sr., 96, of 4825 New Lancaster Valley Road, Milroy, passed away at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Lewistown.
He was born March 4, 1926 in Reedsville, a son of the late Oscar M. And Gertrude V. (Kearns) Dobson. He was first united in marriage to Luella M. (Snook) Dobson, who passed away in 2017. His second wife, Anna R. (McCartle) Lash Dobson preceded him in death on August 21, 2000.
He is survived by: his children, Brenda Trego & husband Frank of Beaver Springs; Phyllis Fisher of McClure; Mary Davidson & husband Edward of Ash, NC; James M. Dobson, Jr. of New Lancaster Valley; Barbara Knepp & husband Robin of Beaver Springs; Martin Dobson & wife Pat of New Lancaster Valley; step-children, Charles E. Lash & wife Patsy; Mary C. Knepp; and Thomas M. Lash, all of New Lancaster Valley; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jim was the last of his immediate family. Along with his parents and wives, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Francis L. Dobson & Milton F. Dobson, Sr., two sisters, Martha M. Knepp & Lydia V. Haines; a son-in-law, Herb Fisher, a step son-in-law, Oscar Knepp and a step daughter-in-law, Betty Lash.
He served in the United States Army during WWII. He retired from Standard Steel where he worked in Machine Shop 1. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, doing crafts and singing with his friends at local establishments.
His funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Reedsville with Pastor Jeff Buch officiating. Burial will take place at New Lancaster Valley Cemetery following the service with military honors. His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
