James E. 'Jim' Matteson

August 27, 2021

Former resident of Decatur, IL., James E. ‘Jim’ Matteson, 78, passed into his eternal rest on Aug. 27, 2021 at his home in Lewistown, Pa.  Mr. Matteson is survived by his wife of 56 years and nine months, Bonita J. Matteson, two sons; Douglas and wife Vicki, of New Castle, Pa., and Thomas and wife Susan, of Lititz, Pa., six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother, Jerry and wife Wanda Matteson, of Decatur, IL.; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mr. Matteson was a brother-in-law to Rebecca and Gerald Davies, both deceased.  He was also brother-in-law to Thomas Woomer and wife Susie, who reside in Florida.

Mr. Matteson was a member of the MacArthur High School Class of 1961 in Decatur, IL., a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a member of the Centre Union Church, of Yeagertown, Pa.  Mr. Matteson spent 13 years employed by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in Washington, D.C., and retired in 1989.  He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, having been saved at age 11.  He had a puppet ministry years ago at a local church with Cyrus, the old man, and Samantha, a new Christian bunny.  He used these puppets to teach Bible truths to children and sometimes adults as well. Following his retirement, he spent time in other Christian activities.

Mr. Matteson also had a fervent love of all kinds of music, from big band to southern gospel and most everything in between.  He gained and retained much knowledge in earlier years by absorbing all information printed on record jackets and CD labels.  He could hear a few bars of a song and tell you who the artist was and who was the band or orchestra behind them, when it was recorded and the circumstances around the recording.

Celebration of Life service at Centre Union Church in Yeagertown has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Oct. 2, 2021 with Pastor Kurtis Swisher officiating.  Condolences and memorials may be made through either Centre Union Church of Yeagertown, Pa. (pastor@centreunion. church), or through the Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Reedsville, Pa.  Contributions can be sent to the Bohn Funeral Home in Reedsville, PA.
