Joseph Donald Gearhart

August 31, 1927 ~ December 4, 2020 (age 93)

Joseph "Joe" Donald Gearhart, 93, of Reedsville, PA, died December 4, 2020, of Covid-19 at Ohesson Manor in Lewistown, PA.  He was born August 31,1927, in Danville, PA, to Jenny Brent and John Gearhart.  We loved to hear his entertaining stories of growing up in a close-knit neighborhood with the older brother he idolized and his very independent sister.  He graduated from Danville High School and enlisted in the US Navy, serving in Hawaii and overseas.  He returned to Danville where he met the love of his life, Doris "Dottie" Coulter.  They were married in Reedsville in 1951.  Joe worked with his father-in-law, Ner Coulter, in home construction and renovation, continuing in this business after Ner's retirement.  He and Dot also enjoyed working in their booth at Dairyland Antique Mall.

Joe was happiest when visiting with family and friends, and when outdoors -- gardening, hunting, fishing, foraging for mushrooms, or bidding at a good farm auction!  And anytime spent at Camp Coulter made for a good day!

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie Gearhart, his brother, John "Boomer" Gearhart, and his sister, Henrietta "Hon" Moore, and more than 285,000 others in our great nation who have died from Covid-19 and whose families mourn their loss as we do.  We are so grateful for all of our health care heroes.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brent Coulter and Carol Ericson Gearhart of Pfafftown, NC, and several generations of nieces and nephews devoted to their Uncle Joe . Due to the pandemic, there is no service planned at this time. Joe would want to be remembered by your actions: cherish your loved ones, spend some quiet time on a porch swing, appreciate nature, wear a mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing.
