Melvin R. Romig, 84, of Milroy, passed away on Sunday, June 19th, 2022 at 10:20 PM, at his home.
Born Sept. 14, 1937, in Yeagertown, he was the son of the late Ross C. and Blanche (Kratzer) Romig. In addition to his parents he, was preceded in death by siblings, David H. Romig, John H. Romig, Marion R. Soccio and Dorothy H. Fisher.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Joan (Kauffman) Romig, whom he married on September 12, 1959; children, Cheryl L. Romig of Milroy, Douglas T. Romig and wife Melonie of Milroy: grandchildren, Stephanie A. Hurst of Fircrest, WA and Kurt R. Romig of Kansas City, MO.
Surviving siblings are William E. Romig of Milroy and Eleanor M. Swanger of Lewisburg.
He also leaves behind a family that meant the world to him, Michael Herto and Laurie, and their children Sophie and Annie, of Milroy.
He graduated from the former Chief Logan High School in 1957.
He retired from the Standard Steel in 1999 after 34 years of service. He was a Melter Supervisor in the Melt Shop.
He was a plumber, carpenter, electrician and jack of all trades. He loved to fish, hunt and spend time outdoors, especially with his family and friends. One of his biggest joys in life was fishing in the wilderness of Quebec, Canada.
Melvin was always there to offer a helping hand to neighbors and friends. He also volunteered many years with the World Hunger Association and Habitat for Humanity.
He was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church.
A celebration of life service is being planned for a later date.
