Mildred Spangler Obituary

Mildred E. Spangler, 90, of Reedsville, passed on to her eternal reward, Feb. 20, 2021, surrounded by her family, honoring her wishes to die at home. Her one last wish was to celebrate her life, not mourn her death.  Born Sept. 13, 1930 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Arthur W. and Esther M. (Montgomery) Stroup.  She married her husband, James A. Spangler, November 18, 1955, and they just celebrated their 65th anniversary.  Also surviving are: children, Karen D. Ruble and husband Jim of Reedsville, Sharon L. Gallagher of Hazelton, Jameline A. Krepps and husband Wesley of Mississippi, Danna M. Klinger of Reedsville; a sister, Geraldine A. Fisher of Lewistown; grandchildren,  Christopher J Ruble, Jimi Janae Ruble, Bill J Gallagher, Danny J Gallagher, Michael L Gallagher, Carma Jo Krepps, Desiree D (Krepps) Strong, Janalee R Krepps, Wade D Krepps, Jessica M (Licate) Paxton, Jennifer M (Licate) Corriveau; great grandchildren, Billy, Kendall, Lennin, Jeremiah, Wyatt, Connor.  She was preceded in death by sisters: Joyce Burnell, and Phyllis J Thomas.

Raising four daughters, there was never a dull moment as they worked together on the family dairy farm.  Mid’s life was busy but simple.  Farming took up most of her life but something she embraced with dedication and love, alongside her husband. She was an avid seamstress and made many of our clothes growing up.  She always liked creating family traditions, of which, one that continues to this day is having hotdogs on Saturday nights.  She dearly loved her grandchildren and greats and always had fun planning family times for us all.  Mid loved her farm life and was a hardworking, dedicated wife and mother, who always put everyone else ahead of her needs and was always there to lend a helping hand to her husband, family and church, where she taught her Sunday School class for years at Reedsville United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 60 years.  After retirement Jim and Mid traveled south where they would spend the winters.  She loved her family, flowers, gardening and was fluent on her computer and cell phone, affectionately known as our “Techy Gram.”  She adored her hummingbirds that she faithfully took care of.

Our family is very grateful to UPMC Family Hospice and Lauren Clark for her kindness to our mom during this time.  Donations can be made to UPMC Hospice.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021 at the Reedsville United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jean Ward officiating.  Family will receive friends one hour before the funeral at the church.  Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
