Sophie B. Gordon-Klimek, 95, of 3965 New Lancaster Valley Road Milroy, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at her home.
Born March 11, 1928 in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Eli and Edna (Freeman) Fry. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and seven sisters and is the last of her immediate family.
Sophie is survived by: her husband, Kenneth E. Klimek, whom she married on August 19, 2018; her children; Linda Hardt of Winnipeg, MB, Canada, Brenda Forsyth of Winnipeg, MB, Canada, Candace Saindon and husband Joe of Hillcrest, AB, Canada, Della Gordon and partner Frank of Calgary, AB, Canada; grandchildren; Nelson Butler, Faye Champion, Jillian Thompson, Jennifer Thompson, Brennan Brown, Byron Brown as well as two great grandchildren Willow Butler and Cooper Butler.
Her career consisted of a variety of employment opportunities, such as, serving as an assistant teacher for disabled students, she was a council member for Winnipeg Beach, MB, and also served as Justice of the Peace for the inter-lake.
For a number of years, Sophie was the President of Home & School (Parent-Teacher Association) of the whole country of Canada. She was also a member of the NDP, and the United Church.
She enjoyed traveling all over Canada with her famous artist, and late husband Kenneth Gordon. She enjoyed bird watching and nature, was an avid reader and loved to dance.
Her memorial service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, PA, with Pastor Doug Pierce officiating.
