Stephen Harbst Obituary

Stephen E. Harbst, 71, of New Lancaster Valley Road, Milroy, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

He was born April 24, 1951, in Lewistown, a son of the late Walter Eugene and Peggy (Taylor) Harbst. He was the last of his immediate family and along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister Deb Harbst.

He is survived by his companion Sue Wert, a stepdaughter, Angela Wert, and three grandchildren, Brooke, Kayla and Alexis Millisock.

He was a 1970 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School. He made his career in fire safety and equipment, working at Penn State University for 25 years before retiring and opening his own business, Central PA Fire Equipment, which he ran for 10 years.

He was a former member of New Lancaster Valley Fire Company.

Steve was a lifelong musician, and was part of many local bands and provided endless entertainment at many local venues. He was a proud, self-taught guitarist and could play strictly by ear, never concerning himself with reading sheet music.

He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather as well as an avid landscaper who was inseparable from his lawnmower and snow plow.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: American Lung Assoc. of Central PA, 3001 Old Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.

Arrangements are under the care of Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, Pa.
