William McNitt Obituary

William R. McNitt, 87, of 58 Jasmine Dr., Reedsville, passed away at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflintown.

                He was born July 28, 1935 in Lumber City, a son of the late James R. and Mary Margaret (Treaster) McNitt. On August 25, 1962, he married Shirley (Dearing) McNitt. She survives at their home.

                Along with his wife, he is also survived by: a brother, Larry Lee “Bud” McNitt & wife Rosie of Lumber City; a sister, Margaret Herto of Church Hill; a sister-in-law, Peggy Dearing of Milroy; and a number of special nieces and nephews.

                He was preceded in death by: four sisters, Dorothy, Evelyn, Katherine and Betty and two half-brothers, Russell and John “Mickey”.

                Bill graduated from Armagh-Brown High School in 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. He and his brother, owned and operated Bud & Bill’s Sunoco in Reedsville for 12 years. Following that, he went to work at Marlette Homes for a short time before going to work in the machine shop at Standard Steel. He retired from the Standard in 1997.

                He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Reedsville and he enjoyed playing golf, watching Penn State and traveling with his wife.

                Per his request, there will be no services. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Church Hill Cemetery.
